Ninety Twenty Workshops provide art and craft skill-building in Metalsmithing, Digital Fabrication and Woodworking. Jewelry workshops and classes are available in 2020.

We are now offering BOTH online and in person jewelry making classes!

Ninety Twenty Workshop offers a craft education through jewelry making and metalsmithing, to a diverse range of students at many skill levels. Learning through hands-on making, students are provided with tools and materials, varied subject matter, and highly skilled instruction for personal and professional growth and in the field.

Ninety Twenty Workshop

These classes are taught by Christine Clark, former Department Head and Professor of Metals at Oregon College of Art and Craft, where she taught for over 30 years. COVID-19 (and the closure of OCAC in 2019) inspired her to make short format classes online. She’s launched a “no fire” series for beginners to familiarize students with the characteristics of non-ferrous metals. There are a lot more classes in store, including the “fire” series, which will get into more advanced processes of jewelry and metalsmithing. The first class is FREE - sign up and check it out.

Anticlastic Bracelets

Anticlastic raising! That’s what you’ll be doing in this two-session workshop. Working with a flat sheet of copper or brass, use hammers and specially shaped stakes to form and create an elegant copper cuff. Leave this class with at least one completed cuff and the possibility of making more. No experience necessary. Instructor: Arielle Brackett

Keeping Tabs

Tab setting! Learn the basics of regular and inverted tab stone settings to create a simple piece of jewelry. Jump in and design your piece, pierce it out, add design elements, finish and set your stone all in three hours! Bring your own flat-backed cabochon stones or use the ones provided in class. Get your cabochons ready and let’s get tabbing. No experience necessary. Instructor: Winona Hwang

Cuttlebone Casting with Simple Fabrication

Explore the magic of cuttlebone casting as you learn to carve real cuttlebone to create molds that molten metal is poured into. Cast an array of pieces to make finished jewelry and combine it with simple fabrication processes to make bands for rings, bales to make pendants, pin stems for brooches, and other basic soldered elements. Flush Settings

Learn the basics of flush setting round stones in a flat sheet of metal. Practice precise stone layout, drilling, burring, and setting along with the creation of your own needle burnishing tool for future setting projects. If time permits, this setting sample can be turned into a simple pendant. Prerequisite: Basic jewelry making experience required. Instructor: Colin Kippen

Sweat Soldered Band Ring

Design and make a sterling silver band ring with a unique pierced pattern. Use the jeweler’s saw to cut your own design as you learn the processes of piercing, butt joint and sweat soldering, and more. Explore the world of chasing and repousse in metalsmithing and jewelry making. This ancient process involves pushing metal from the front and back to create detailed hollow forms using your own steel tools made in class. If you are sick, please stay home and get well! If you miss a class that has multiple sessions, the teacher will make every effort to catch you up, within reason.

Studio Access Policy:

Students have access to the studio to work outside of class time if they are currently enrolled in a class. This benefit ends when the class is over. Students enrolled in one day classes are not eligible. However, Post-Class Studio Access is available. This opportunity allows you to work during open studio hours. COVID protocol

Some of our instructors and students are still wearing masks. We have masks available for those who choose to wear them. However, it is left up to the individual if they’d like to wear a mask or not. Masks are not required.
